GDO – Girl’s Day Out

IMG_6246    McKenna and I spent a wonderful Sunday afternoon out together.  We first skipped (for the most part) naptime (pulled an all dayer vs an all nighter) and got dressed up together.  We went to the Center for Puppetry Arts to see “The Real Truth About the Three Little Pigs”.  McKenna loves the story of the Three Little Pigs and pretends often about the Big Bad Wolf.  When I saw it was playing Sunday morning, I knew what we would do for girl’s day.

We toured the museum quickly and I realized how old I am and how young she is.  No idea who the muppets are, the Dark Crystal, Fraggle Rock, etc…but she was well aware and amazed by Big Bird.  IMG_6254

She was so attentive through most of the puppet show and was so cute to watch.  She would watch intently, not get the humor (being two) but would take her cues from others.  When other people laughed she would fake laugh and say “that was funny” and smile big up at me.  I LOVED it!

IMG_6250After the show, we treated ourselves to frozen yogurt at the Yogurt Tap in Decatur.  We then ran home to meet up with Kara and Daddy to cook dinner and play outside.  What a wonderful Girl’s Day Out!

A Spring Weekend

We had a beautiful IMG_6173weekend filled with fun, our boyfriends, and new experiences.  We did gymnastics and the zoo (Just McKenna and Mommy) with friends on Friday.  McKenna rode the train, ate hot dogs, enjoyed yummy cotton candy, and…oh yeah, saw a couple of animals too.  :)

Saturday the whole family enjoyed “touch a truck”.  In Decatur, the city employees, police, fire, sanitation, DOT, etc bring their work vehicles to a large parking lot and kids climb in the back, cabs, ladder buckets, etc and play.  They can turn on sirens, make the garbage truck compactor run, and talk to the owners of the vehicles.  Kara loved the fire truck and police car; McKenna drove to trash compactor, sat on a police motorcycle, and spoke on the CB radio in the fire truck.  After the trucks we had a delicious lunch with the Lakes family.  Late naps, then on to a crawfish boil with some friends.  McKenna was unusually outgoing and played well with children she did not know.  Kara was hungry and tired and apparently not interested in crawfish for dinner.  In fact, Mom was the only crawfish eater.  So, we got to enjoy a late picnic dinner in our front yard before baths and bed.

We won’t discuss our cold, rainy, lazy Sunday…except to say it was cold, rainy, and lazy.

Piedmont Park – Feeding the Ducks

We went with the Lakes family to Piedmont Park on March 18th.  The almost three year olds enjoyed throwing bread to the geese and ducks.  The closer to one year olds enjoyed eating the bread….

There was one fairly aggressive goose who kept coming right up to whomever had bread and honking and hissing at them and all the other aviary-kind to make sure he got all the bread – even hissed at Kara to try to intimidate her to give up the bread she was eating…she laughed in his face!   McKenna spent a lot of time saying “get back in the water Goose!  Go away!

Kara is growing up

IMG_6071IMG_6263     After two long months of fevers, hospital stays, multiple tests, many doctors, and scary nights, Kara seems to have settled into a healthy phase we hope lasts a while!

She is growing so fast!  She is bigger than McKenna in both height and weight at the same age; she is wearing clothes McKenna wore when she was 17 months old!  Crazy.  IMG_6217

BIG NEWS: Kara has 4 teeth!  She is sitting in a booster seat and eating all table foods!  She graduated to a real car seat (so cute to see the girls face to face in the car holding hands and sharing toys)!  And…she’s CRAWLING!!!!!   YEAH!  It all goes by so fast! IMG_6258IMG_6093

At her most recent doctor’s appointment – to check her out since her hospital stays, she was pronounced happy and healthy.  She is growing well and now weighs a whopping 18Lbs 4oz.

St. Patty’s Day 2010

March 17th  We all worked on this Holiday – all wearing our green and making sure we got kisses.  The best part of our day was dinner with our friends, the Lakes.  They have Irish blood in ‘em, so they were ready to party.  We enjoyed a “not so Irish” dinner at Taco Mac.  Heather had fun accessories to make the day more special and we caught a couple of pics of the girls looking cute bedecked in green and accessorizing.  march 17th 2

One of the First Warm Days

March 16th was finally a warm day where we were able to enjoy playing outside after work and school.  Kara just started crawling, McKenna planted flowers and took pictures, Daddy played golf, and Mommy ran between playing and cooking dinner.

These are pictures shot by McKenna all by herself  -- we think maybe she should start doing the photos for the Blog….but then I might have to pay her…

Zoo With The Boys

The girl’s stayed home from school on the 8th of March and we met up with all the local guys at the zoo.  Davis, Finn, and McKenna ran loose through the zoo.  Their favorite part: the very wild and rarely seen construction guys!  What child can resist staring at big machine, dirty sweaty men, and piles of dirt and dust flying high?

My Grown Up McKenna

IMG_6128 IMG_6120 She is my funny, sweet, silly, energetic, artistic, articulate, gentle, fussy, whiney, crazy two year old!

How is it that she can make me so angry and so happy in the same moment?!  How is she so cute at the exact right moment 90% of the time?

IMG_6171Right now, she is into “when I grow big” and “I’m trying to grow big big big momma”.

She loves to read and be read to.  She will sit quietly for a time and read books and her new favorite: the Highlights magazine her Great Aunt Lindy gave her for Christmas.IMG_6225

She’s becoming quite girly – loves dresses and skirts and wanted to have her brushed and done.  (What I love is she will still get really dirty too – even all dressed up.)  She put on a dress my grandmother made for me one night after bath time – it is actually going to be her Easter dress (with help from Heather to add length to it) and twirled, danced, ran, and hopped in her “pretty dress”.IMG_6062IMG_6063

Blog--apalooza

So, it’s been some time since we added news to the blog – so I am catching up on lost time and adding in March in the next couple of days.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas – so much fun to have two little ones opening presents.

We celebrated New Years with the Ethridge family in Social Circle.

The girls have grown up so much since we last posted…more on that in the posts to come!

IMG_6033 We spent January and February worried about Kara (in the hospital twice with high fevers and tons of tests that yielded no real answers) and McKenna enjoyed lots of spoiling with the Grandparents.  She spent the first 3 day tour with GramB and split the second 3 day tour between GramB and Grandma/Poppa.  We missed the circus (except McKenna) and Mommy slept on a cement makeshift bed for several nights.  But, we are all home, healthy, and having FUN in March!!
